COVID-19 Updates

Is the AREC still open?

Yes, the Commission remains operational; however, our building is not currently open to the public. We are following the directive of the Governor and the Secretary of Health to limit onsite work to employees who are critical to our necessary functions while enabling certain employees to work remotely. In essence, this means we are operating with a limited staff and every engaged employee, whether reporting onsite or remotely, is wearing multiple hats. Please keep this in mind when you need to reach the Commission and know that we are doing our best to respond to each of you.

Please note: the April 13 Commission Meeting has been cancelled. Future meetings or events will be addressed as the situation evolves, and we will update our website accordingly.

License Candidate Update: Exams

Pearson VUE, the real estate exam provider, has notified us they will be temporarily closing all company-owned U.S. and Canada-based Pearson Professional Centers (PPCs) starting March 16, 2020, for at least 30 days until April 16, or whenever conditions are deemed safe to re-open. You are encouraged to check Pearson VUE’s Coronavirus Update Page for more details.

Additionally, AREC is working to identify applicants who have not yet passed the exam and whose applications will expire during this time frame. We will be extending the Certificates of Exam Eligibility for candidates whose reservations have been cancelled as well as those candidates who have not yet scheduled their exams but whose CEEs will expire before they are able to make a reservation to test.

Because it remains unclear when testing sites will reopen, we have not yet defined these extensions in terms of hard and fast dates; however, we will provide extensions that allow candidates ample time to sit for the exam. New candidates for examination will also receive extensions if necessary. We are working to notify the affected candidates and will update our website as more details are available.

License Candidate Update: Fingerprinting

The Arkansas State Police Headquarters in Little Rock will no longer accept walk-ins for fingerprinting services except for health care workers. Real estate license applicants may utilize the commercial capture sites (see list below) to be fingerprinted.

Education Update

The AREC is working with educators to ensure classes can continue using alternative methods of instruction. Several educators have reached out to our office with ideas for web-based learning using Zoom and other web-based applications. Additional online courses will be made available as well.

We recognize that many new licensees are looking to complete their post-license education courses. As such, we have authorized the following extensions:

For licensees whose post-license is currently past-due, we will extend their due date to July 31.

For licensees with post-license due on or after February 29, we will extend their due date to August 31.

The mission of the Arkansas Real Estate Commission is to protect the public interest through the examination, licensing, and regulation of real estate brokers and salespersons, and through administration of the Arkansas Time-Share Law. We will continue to serve the people of Arkansas through this difficult time.
