PROPOSED RULE AMENDMENT: EXPANDING ALLOWABLE EDUCATION DELIVERY METHODS

Currently there are certain types of real estate education that may only satisfy licensure requirements when completed by actual classroom attendance. Those same courses, if offered by distance learning (i.e., on-line courses), are not allowed to fulfill the mandatory educational requirements. This restriction is applicable to the 18-hour Salesperson post-license course; 60-hour Broker pre-license course and 30-hour Broker post-license course.

The purpose of this rule amendment is to remove those restrictions and allow credit for the real estate education when offered by distance education (i.e., on-line courses). Allowing the courses to be completed by distance learning will help accommodate applicants for licensure and active licensees whose circumstances impair their participation in classroom courses or whose learning styles and preferences are more suited to distance learning.

You may review a copy of the public hearing notice and proposed rule amendments here. Public hearing was held at AREC on September 9, 2019, and the proposed amendments will be heard by the ALC-Administrative Rules Committee in mid-October. The proposed effective date of these changes, pending legislative approval, is January 1, 2020.
